Like many forums out there there are different ways to approach this.
You can charge people just to be a part of the community, you can charge them to see certain sections of the forum, you can charge them to see any links/pictures, etc
Please let me know if all of these options are possible and if you can share some examples that use these different features. Would you set this up to stripe or woocomerce?
