We got this from a student:
- I receive a notification in my email that a post has been replied to
- I click the "reply" button in the email message. The log in screen opens in a new window
- I log in
- When the post screen loads there are no links to the dashboard. I am stuck in the PFM Community Board Portal.
- Even when returning to the "home" page or any other link there still are no links to get to the dashboard.
I responded this way:
There really isn't a good way to get around this, as the solution is worse than the inconvenience of getting to a post via email, as you describe.
Here's the reason. We could add a link to the page that would take you to your dashboard, but then that link would ALSO still be there when you access the Community the 'normal' way, via a lesson in a Course. When you access it via a lesson in a course, your "back to dashboard" link is above the syllabus, via Thinkific functionality, as it is for all lessons and all courses.
But in this case, you would also have that link in the lesson itself, and if you clicked it there, it would open your dashboard WITHIN THE LESSON body. So you would start a "Russian doll" situation of a page within a page within a page. You could go as deep as you wanted.
We can't have students getting lost like that, so not having that link is the lesser of two evils, as it were.
That is why we had to remove the Thinkific header and footer in the first place. Students could click on link that were there, creating the Russian Doll effect.
The link to the post that comes in the email, imo, should NOT go to the PeerBoard page directly. This bypasses the whole purpose of embedding the board in a Multimedia lesson type.
